We hope you had a wonderful Easter Weekend! It’s Monday, so that means we are introducing you to yet another one of our incredible employees here at Paddington Station. Meet Vanessa Rosove, our Accounts Manager!
- Where did you grow up?
I was born in a little town called Sweet Home, Oregon in the Willamette Valley and moved when I was a kid to Chiloquin. In 2010, I came to Ashland to go to SOU and be a part of their music program. - What is something about you that would surprise people?
I used to be in 4H as a kid and know more about chickens than anyone would ever want to know! [I asked her for a fun chicken fact and she told me that a chicken lays on average an egg and a half per day, which is just funny to think about!] I have shown chickens, birds, rabbits, and all sorts of small animals and know lots of details about raising critters! - What is the best meal you ever had?
I feel like my favorites change a lot, but I’ve really been digging the burger at Hearsay right now. It’s got bacon and arugula and this amazing goat cheese spread that they make in house. They change it periodically, so get in while you can! - What is your favorite time of year?
I love the Spring, especially on days like today… it’s just so pretty outside! I love it when everything is budding and blooming and waking up after that long winter rest. The renewal and refreshing aspect of everything is so nice. - Where is your favorite spot in Ashland?
Out in the watershed past Lithia Park if you keep driving back that way. It’s called the Fairy Ponds by the locals, because of the way the water naturally settles into little pools. - What are some of your hobbies?
I have been getting into roller skating and I love to do archery with my friends! We go to the local archery club but we also have a private spot where we shoot. Right now I’m helping set up a big gathering for a non-profit organization called Nomenus. The Radical Faeries are a really amazing group of people that are centered in queer counter-culture. - Tell me about your favorite pet you’ve ever had.
That’s gotta be my best boy, Baker. I just lost him last summer and he was my baby and my soulmate. He was a big, fluffy, orange kitty and added so much value to my life, helping me cope and get through things. I have another chonky calico girl now who is doing her darndest to take his place, and her name is Percy. - Who has been the most influential person in your life?
I feel like so many people come and go and give you such valuable things to learn and strive for in your life. I had a really amazing teacher in high school named Mrs. Hepper. She taught government, history, and economics and was just such a strong-headed woman. She gave me a lot of confidence and I learned so many things from her. - What is a mantra you like to live by?
“The best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.” The first time I heard that phrase, it didn’t resonate with me, but now that I’ve given it a few years, it means a lot more. When you have a big, daunting task that you’re forced to confront, you can’t do it all at once. You can only take it piece by piece to get through it. - What is your favorite thing about working at Paddington Station?
I have really enjoyed the growth. I started at the bottom in 2016 and I’ve worked my way up to my position now for the last seven years. I’ve just learned so much about running a small business- every aspect you could think of, from the paperwork to the buying to the customers. It’s all moving pieces and it feels good to be a part of that beating heart.
